During Queen's Birthday weekend the 75th jubilee of the Hostel was held and it was an outstanding success - with Old Boys coming from overseas as well as all over New Zealand. 

The special guest of the occasion was Charles Lewis (89 years old), who attended Whangārei Boys' High School in 1927 and was a first year boarder in the new Carruth House back in that year.

The Jubilee dinner on the Saturday evening was a wonderful occasion with the undoubted highlight being a very humorous anecdotal address by past Headmaster Maurie Dean. 

All those who attended the function enjoyed themselves a great deal. 

The event summed up by one of the Carrruth Old Boys ...."I remember the Reunion fondly, at the time it was just over 30 years since I landed at Carruth as a shy boy from the country.

The Reunion was a great opportunity to reconnect with the young men I spent three formative years with. How the years just slipped behind us as we sat down with mates and talked of our time at Carruth. We recalled the wonderful matrons including Mrs Ao and Mrs Gilbert, swimming in the pool all summer. The dorm raids, the prefects like Athol Cartwright, Ross Auld & Robin McKenty, and masters like Mr Clark, Mr Gifford and All Black and Northland Rep Bevan Holmes. The Reunion was also a great time to catch up with other members of our family who had been at Carruth at other times and compare notes. A good time was had by all, and I still keep in contact with a number of my fellow Carruthians". David Templeton, Carruth - 1971-1973
