Mr Al Kirk - 2000 to 2015
Mr Al Kirk completed high school at Waiora College, Hawkes Bay, in 1971. He then obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at Massey University before attending the College of Education in Christchurch where he obtained his Secondary Education Teaching Diploma in 1977.
He taught at Queen Elizabeth College in Palmerston North becoming Head of Mathematics. He then moved to New Plymouth Boys’ High School in 1990 as Assistant Principal as well as being Senior House Master at the Carrington House Hostel.
In 1996 he moved to Nelson where he was Deputy Headmaster at Nelson College for 3 years. In February 2000, Mr Kirk was appointed Headmaster at Whangārei Boys’ High School.
Mr Kirk was Headmaster at Whangārei Boys High School for 15 years and resigned from this role in July 2015. Upon his resignation he said "I've been doing this job for 15 years and I'm just as passionate about it as I've always been. While I would like to carry on, I would also like to go out on top."
In 2017, he went to teach at Tauraroa Area School, Whangārei, as Head of Mathematics.
